Vision and Mission
Vision – Use of our mother tongue to communicate effectively
Mission – To teach listening, speaking, reading and writing skills for effective communication.
As part of the department’s efforts to promote and cultivate an interest in reading among our pupils, pupils from each level read different storybooks during the course of the year. Following the storytelling or reading aloud sessions, pupils complete reading reviews, sharing their reflections on the stories that they have read.
Mother Tongue Language Fortnight
As part of the activities for Mother Tongue Language Fortnight, pupils have the opportunity to be exposed to different languages’ cultures through cultural activities, thereby enriching their learning of the Mother Tongue Language. Competitions, exhibitions and book borrowing from the mobile library (in collaboration with the National Library Board) will also be organised.
Conversational Chinese/Malay Programme
This programme is a post-exam activity for the Primary 4 pupils. Pupils are given the opportunity to learn the language of another race so as to enable pupils of different races to better interact with one another and strengthen bonds among them. Pupils are taught to engage in simple daily conversations such as the greetings used toward the elderly and their peers.
Remediation Programme (Primary 3 to 6)
The after-school remediation programme aims to help identified pupils who need additional support in the Mother Tongue Language. Learning is consolidated and reinforced in order to help these pupils build and strengthen their foundation in the language.
